Thu 6/7/12 going to see a Dr

today we met Frank (the tank) and Mr Lee at 8:30 am to take our baby to the hospital due to her continued cough, occasional low grade fever and sounding congested, we didn't want to put any additional medical stress on her for our upcoming flight. We are taken to the 1st hospital for the people of China which is supposed to be a great hospital... This experience is quite different from what we are used to. The place is packed, outside and inside with people waiting, getting IV antibiotics (new trend because it takes less time and is very popular here).
Its hard to see how crazy it is here. The Drs do not have closed doors, instead there is a line going to the Dr of sick people. A small chair in front of the Doc is occupied by a patient who is literally just looked at, not really examined and sent on their way. While the Doc is doing his diagnosing the next ppl in line are already talking to him about their issues or their child's, there is no such thing as waiting your turn... You gotta fight for the attention... We of course, being foreigners, are going into the front of the line... I don't like that at all. I'm sure these people have waited hours to be seen. I'm being told they often spend the night to be seen the next day and people have to take an entire day off work to make it through the hospital (going from Dr. to Dr)
we are sent from the general Dr to an ENT because of her cough, without the GP looking at her. The ENT only glances at the outside of her ear and determines she has NO ear infection. But we are again sent on to another department to get her heart looked at since she has CHD...
There we wait in line, talk to a heart Dr who will do an ultra sound after she is sedated... it seems an unidentified amount of clear liquid is given to Evangeline to get her to sleep.
She is out within 10 min and the Ultrasound begins.
After what seemed an eternity the Dr turns to our guide whispers something to him then we go to his office. There he says that Evangeline has some serious heart issues and may not make the trip home...
We are devastated and return to the hotel instead of sight seeing. We are totally beside ourselves and spend a very somber, sad afternoon and evening at our hotel. It has been decided no more activities will be done until we fly out the next day to the city of Guangzhou.
Once at the hotel we have a very somber lunch with Frank our guide, hoping our baby would wake soon. Finally after about 4 hrs she wakes, Thank God.

I do have an antibiotic from home with us and start giving this to Evangeline to help with any infections she may have.
